Galston District Garden Club

The Galston Garden Club want to thank the Community and wider public for the help to boost money for Charity at the latest October Open Garden Weekend.
The climate couldn't have been more excellent. I would like to congratulate the backyard house owners for their presentation of their gardens, the gatekeepers for their attendance at each gate and others working behind the scene.

In the New Year, we will be on the lookout for new gardens prime open for this event in 2024. If you realize of a backyard or want to open your own garden the Club would love to pay attention to from you.

On the eighth November, we had our last meeting till 2nd Wednesday in February. We welcome new members and guests. Come and benefit from the club’s visitor audio system, backyard rambles and the company of people with an interested in gardening.

At our latest assembly, we had an attention-grabbing talk about Bromeliads. Alan bought alongside some of his collection and the members have been in a place to buy a few of his fascinating plants. In fact, he had nothing to take house.

For  Galston District Garden Club  in a shady or sheltered area within the garden and even for indoors, you can not look past the Bromeliad. All arising from the identical household (Bromeliaceous) there are a variety of bromeliads to select from.

They present great foliage color and kind to the garden, can grow in bushes and even produce fruit! Easy to grow and propagate they are a must have for the avid or newbie gardener… They like full sun, common watering, properly drained/sandy soil, and are appropriate for all climatic zones.

Choose a spot within the backyard that receives filtered sun and has well-drained soil. In poorly drained areas, create an elevated mound for free-draining soil or chunky orchid mix. Dig a hole within the prepared mounds the same dimension as the root ball.

Holding the principle physique of the plant with one hand, gently backfill the opening, pushing the soil underneath and across the roots in order that the plant is sitting excessive on the mound. If the plant is unstable, you can use some helps corresponding to stones or pots to hold it upright whereas its roots settle in.

Water in properly. Ensure that you just also place some water into the central a part of the plant, as that is where they draw in further moisture as properly. Food every spring and autumn with Dynamic lifter soil improver and plant fertiliser by making use of across the root zone and water in well.

Our meetings are on the 2nd Wednesday of the Month at 37 Arcadia Rd, Galston the Community Hall at 7.00pm. Our subsequent assembly might be in February 2024. For data regarding our Club please visit our website: www.galstongardenclub.com.au or e mail: [email protected]
